Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, degenerative disease that causes inflammation in the joints. The areas most affected by this type of rheumatism are the wrists, fingers and toes, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. The joint inflammation causes pain, deformity, and difficulty moving, as the cartilage wears away and the bones rub against each other separated. The cause of this disease is unknown and currently has no cure possible. The damage to bone and cartilage is irreparable, so the treatment of this condition seeks to relieve the pain and disability of patients, in addition to prevent permanent damage occurs in the affected joints.
